As a full time resident in Nicaragua, Tracy and the other founders of Proyecto Laguna saw the desperate need for aid in the small pueblos in Nicaragua that seemed to escape notice, including the location of our pilot program, the community of Dirià. In 2006 she founded Proyecto Laguna with the help of her husband Jeff, Buzz & Kathy Belcher and Jennifer Schwinn. As the Executive Director Tracy oversees daily operations as well as fundraising and accountability for the foundation. She is constantly expanding the outreach programs of Proyecto Laguna by forging new relationships, strengthening existing ones and connecting with other aid organizations in Nicaragua and the United States. It was her goal from the beginning to create a unique program that was based in the assurance that all money raised to help the children and families in the program actually went to that purpose. To date, her wish has been the reality and 100% of all donations reach the people it was meant for. This is the most fulfilling work Tracy has ever done and she is excited to see the future of Proyecto Laguna's growth. Jennifer Schwinn - Director of Community Service
Jennifer is the Director of Community Development for Proyecto Laguna. She has been working for Proyecto Laguna since its inception. Jennifer is our key person "on the ground" and she is in Diria several times each week working directly with the teachers, parents and students to ensure that our programs are meeting their goals and working as effectively as possible. Jennifer enjoys the relationships she has made in the community of Diria and is proud of the difference Proyecto Laguna has been able to make. Dina Morales Aleman - Registered Nurse
Dina has worked with Proyecto Laguna as a school nurse since January of 2006. Dina lives and grew up in Diria. As a child she attended the Ruiz Castillo School where she now works. Dina is a nurse and is currently attending medical school to become a doctor. She is an integral part of the Proyecto Laguna team and works hard to ensure that the children of Diria receive proper medical care. Erin Deshon - Program & Fund Raising Coordinator
A native New Yorker married to a Nicaraguan, Erin has the unique experience of seeing Nicaragua from two perspectives. Since moving to Managua, Nicaragua in 2005, she has kept busy raising two young daughters and adjusting to life in a country very different from the one she had known. Amidst the beauty of her new home, she was always aware that extreme poverty and lack of food, clothing and education plagued most families across the country. Proyecto Laguna is an excellent organization because it aims to break that cycle by creating an educational model that stresses responsibility, motivation and community involvement. Erin is very excited to be working with the team at Proyecto Laguna. She hopes that her education from Cornell University and her previous charitable and work experiences will contribute to the goal of teaching and empowering the young minds of Nicaragua. Belcher Family - Co-Founders & Program Volunteers
In 2006 Buzz and Kathy Belcher purchased a home in Nicaragua to spend a good portion of their year. During this time they, Tracy and Jeffrey Finch, along with the help of Jennifer Schwinn took the first steps in founding Proyecto Laguna. They saw tremendous need for assistance in the small town adjacent to where they purchased their home, Dirià, Nicaragua and the group collectively decided that this was the place to start. With skills developed during their many years as business owners and entrepreneurs they helped to establish our programs and initiate fund raising on many fronts. Today they continue to be strong supporters of Proyecto Laguna and their children; Jonathan, William and Alex also actively participate. They are proud of the growth of Proyecto Laguna but know that there is so much more to do and they look forward to a brighter future for the children and families enrolled in our programs.
