We
Hope to Provide the Following Services for all Schools... |
|
You can sponsor a child through Proyecto Laguna for $100 per year. All children, and their parents, who are sponsored, have completed a contact with Proyecto Laguna. In the contract the children have agreed to attend school daily and set goals for themselved for the school year. The child’s parent or caretaker has agreed to support the child in regular attendance and to participate in the school to the best of their abilities.
All children who are sponsored will receive school supplies at the beginning of the school year in January including uniforms, shoes and backpacks. A supplemental supply of school supplies will be provided in July (pencils, notebooks etc.). Sponsorship money will also be used to meet the child’s basic medical needs and to support their school.

Food Fund - Food Bank
The
local schools receive rice, beans, and corn to provide
a school lunch. Unfortunately, supplies always run out
long before the next shipment comes in, which is about
every six months. Many children do not attend school
because they don’t receive a meal at home. Laguna
Project has a fund to supplement the food supplies so
that students can be provided with school lunch daily.
Our hope is that once this plan is in effect we will
be able to supply a small breakfast as well as lunch.
One
hundred pounds of Rice, 75 pounds of beans, and 60 pounds
corn will feed 800 students per day. Below are some
samples of current basic food staple costs.
- $35.00
- Cost of 100 pounds of beans
- $29.00
- Cost of 100 pounds of rice
- $17.50
- Cost of 100 pounds of corn
- $9.00
- Cost of 2 ½ gallons of oil

Medical
Services Fund
|
Currently
the school system in Diria has no medical attention
or supplies for the children. Many children are unable
to attend school due to infections that could be easily
treated using the proper medicines. Laguna Project
plans on hiring a school nurse to work full time who
will be paid by donations. We also have a fund to
assist with paying for medical supplies and medicines
that are needed by the children and their families,
through an account with the local pharmacy.

Medical
Supplies
|
Needed
supplies include; parasite medicine, anti-diarrheals,
fungus treatments, basic pain killer, antibiotic ointments,
band-aids and tropical medicine supplies. The nurse
will also require basic supplies such as: thermometer,
blood pressure cuff, cotton, scissors, alcohol, tweezers,
gauze, tape and carrying case. There is a qualified
candidate for the position of school nurse, in Diria.
She has her nursing certificate and is currently working
in Pediatrics in Managua.
With
adequate funding we will be able to provide her wage
of $200 a month. Both money to buy supplies and donations
of supplies are welcome.

Building
Fund - Repairs & Reconstruction |
The
school buildings are currently in poor condition; many
are lacking adequate roofs or ceilings, none of the
schools have a safe play ground area, school lunches
are currently cooked outdoors over an open fire, and
the latrines are falling apart and unsanitary.
Safe
and clean facilities are basic necessities that children
require for proper learning. The ability to learn in
a healthy environment is a right that many people from
developed nations take for granted. For more information
about current projects and building needs, we have outlined
specific projects click on the
Schools link.
